An American Kestrel perches at the top of a tree. These small, colorful falcons are fun to watch. They hunt for bugs and small rodents in the fields. They'll often flap their wings wildly and hover about 20 feet above the ground watching for prey. This hovering motion is called "kiting." When they find something, they'll hurtle downward in a flash and most likely will successfully catch their meal.
