The female Northern Cardinal looks drab from a distance, but up close in the warm morning light you can see that they are very pretty and colorful. This was the mate to the cardinal in the male cardinal photograph. I found they were much easier to photograph these birds in the winter because the branches were bare making the birds stand out better.

Camera model: Canon EOS-1D Mark II
Lens used: Canon 600mm lens at 1200mm (using a 2X teleconverter)
Exposure Data:
ISO 400.
1/80 at f/9.
Av exposure mode (Aperture Priority).
Multi-segment metering +1/3 stop.
