I lugged a tripod and about 25 pounds of gear up Piestewa Peak hoping to find something interesting - and I did. White-Winged Doves are common in Phoenix neighborhoods and are not too thrilling in that setting. But it turns out they are native to areas that have Saguaro cactus, as I discovered this day. They pierce the fruit of the Saguaro and eat what's inside. You can see some of the red juices from the fruit on the bird's chin.
