A male Common Yellowthroat perched on a branch swaying in the breeze. During the year that I spent photographing birds on the refuge before it opened, I barely saw any Common Yellowthroats. I searched high and low, but could only get a few photos of female Yellowthroats, and a few glimpses of the males. I was disappointed because the Common Yellowthroat is the mascot of this refuge and I needed to have some photos for the grand opening brochures! On this day, long after the grand opening, there were dozens of them taunting me, probably because I hadn't brought my long lens!
