Eggs in a Killdeer nest in the gravel on the side of a refuge road. Killdeer like to nest in gravel, so the gravel of the road seems perfect to them. And since their eggs are camouflaged so well, it's especially difficult to spot their nests if you're driving a vehicle, such as a tractor, down that road. One of the nicest features of the new Wildlife Center at the refuge is that the groof of the building has gravel on it to provide nesting for the Killdeer.
