In a secluded thicket near Page Springs in the Verde Valley, I first spotted this Hermit Thrush plucking berries from a bush that was covered in fruit. I also found a Spotted Towhee eating from the same bush, and a small group of Javelina came through the area while I was there. This image is a multiple award winner – it won a First Place in the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s (AZGFD) 2008 Arizona Wildlife Calendar Contest and appears on the calendar page for the month of November. It also won a Second Place in the 2008 Indian Wells Arts Festival.
